Get your unofficial transcripts so you can begin the application process early...
- BEGIN Common Application (you cannot begin CSU, so you might as well get this out of the way) with your goal to finish by Oct 1st. See instructions under "Common App" tab under "College Resources".
- www.commonapp.org: 456+ colleges accept this. The deadlines are ALL different; some are rolling throughout the year, and others happen early Applying students need to keep on top of this! Purchase a planner if you do not have one, or use your Google Calendar feature in Echo to start keeping track of very important deadlines. COLLEGE DEADLINES ARE FINAL!
- Not ALL private schools utilize Commonapp.org, so students are responsible for checking. USC only recently started using Common App. If you have your heart set on a special school, visit their website (Google it!) to learn more about how to apply
- Continue drafting your personal statement for UC (it can also be used as the essay for Common App)
- Begin UC application, as you can save it, then submit it between Nov 1-30 during the open window.
- Sign-up for and calendar your last SAT's and ACT's (note deadlines!). Last one you can take is December '14. You qualify for 2 free with a waiver from Kantack (waiver does not qualify for late registration)
- Add "LIVE Calendar" under calendars section to your Google Calendar. Due dates are already listed.
- Complete a brag sheet ONLY if you need it for Cal State's EOP (read-up on it) or Private Schools (common app) and submit it to recommenders by October 1st. UC's need no letters.
- Look into Early Admission (EA) and/or Early Decision (ED) and talk to your parents about this if interested.
- Meet w/ counselor to determine which classes you need to (re)take in order to qualify for college (Remember: NO UNIVERSITY WILL ACCEPT A "D" IN A CORE ACADEMIC CLASS)
- Stay focused! You are so close to the finish line!
OCTOBER
October 1st
- Be DONE w/ Common App if possible (makes your life easier!)
- Get your applications started online for other 4-year, public universities by starting an account on the university website (CSUmentor.edu and universityofcalifornia.edu)
- CSU online application is open and available to submit, recommended to get ‘er done by Oct 15.
- 1st come, 1st served for CSU applications (so you can have an acceptance letter early as Nov 15th if you get your app in early enough)
- Many CSU’s are now impacted, and fill up quickly, so fill out application ASAP
- UC app available to fill in, but cannot click "submit" until Nov 1st
- As you complete CSU app, finish brag sheet, get 2 recommendations for EOP (due by end of Nov)
NOVEMBER
Nov 1st
- UC app open to submit online
Nov 30th
- UC & CSU, deadline for online applications @ midnight (Don’t delay, server slows dow annually at 11:59 pm on due date because of all the procrastinators)
- Self-imposed EOP deadline, requiring 2 letters of recommendation
DECEMBER
Dec 15th
- Recommended to have EVERYTHING else done by this date, including, private and out of states; then student can enjoy vacation
- 8 private/ out-of-state school application costs are covered by COLLEGEBOARD and NACAC, regardless of citizenship status
- When CSU and UC responds back that they received your application, START UP YOUR EMAIL ACCT W/ THEM IMMEDIATELY, and check it regularly; this is how they will be keeping in touch w/ you from now on, and notifying you if you missed anything.
- Check to see that all "official score reports" have been sent to your universities (collegeboard has this record) and remember, these tests are cumulative (what you send in December will also reflect your scores from any test taken before December too).
